Digipak ideas

These album CD covers all belong to a band called 'A Tribe Called Quest'. They all have bright colours in common and the titles of the albums are clearly stated across the front of each one. The first album cover is perhaps the most colourful and generic to their genre, which is hip hop/alternative/jazz. This band think of themselves as 'cultured' and this is shown through the font of the first album cover; where it says "People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths Of Rhythm" the font is made to look somewhat African however that is subtley contradicted with the drawings of the brightly coloured buildings which borders the title.

The second album CD cover "Beats, Rhymes and Life" is more generic to the hip hop genre. The font is very urban and along with the picture it connotes more of a city kind of genre unlike the first and last images. Again, the CD cover is very colourful and is much more busy than the others. This cover isn't anything like I would use for my CD cover as it is not generic to my genre. However I really like the idea of the bright colours.

The third album CD cover is my favourite out of these three. It has more of a cultural theme as the person in the centre looks like an African art piece. The font is affective for this theme howvever for my genre it will look unprofessional and out of place. Yet again, they have used bright colours to catch the audiences/viewers attention if it were in a music shop. I really like the idea of having lots of the same faces in the background I think this works really well and the use of the large headphones is affective and generic. Overall I think that all of these album covers are affective for their genre and the busy-ness of them make them more sentimental.

Props

The guitar that Laurence used while we were shooting the music video looked very much like this one. However he had personalised his guitar as his own by placing stickers on it, maybe this is to show what he likes and or what his personality is like. This prop was the most important of all props as it is in mostly every shot and is the main focus in which.

Another prop used in the music video was a hat, which very much resembles the one in the picture. At first I wanted Laurence to wear a top hat because I thought it would go well with the 'hippie' theme I had. Nevertheless this flatcap hat worked well within the mise en scene. I also think it made the artist look somewhat mysterious, which is alike to a few of the similar artists - Bob Dylan, Nick Drake.

Devil Sticks, like these were used a lot in my music video. I asked Laurence to play with them a lot to create some sort of motif for himself. This also related to the 'hippie' theme I had. I realised that when I had a few shots of Laurence playing with the devil sticks when the shot was either slowed down and fastned up it still worked well in my video.

Ideas for CD cover

I think that this kind of Norfolk seascape drawing is perfect for the front cover of my CD. This picture very much corresponds with my artist's song and the video; where I have related to nature in nearly every shot. This idea is also strong for the reason that my artist is from Norfolk and for a first ever CD cover, heritage should play an important part for the fans or just onlookers.
I like the style of this picture and the way it stands out, although it may make the CD look a little bit country and old (out of genre). However the calmness of this image is very much like the track and the artist himself. I really want to try and put the nature motif across with my CD cover and a cover like this would be great.
